Petrova Third Top-10 Player to Commit to Pilot Pen Tennis

By Anonymous

NEW HAVEN, CT May 5, 2004 -– The star-studded Pilot Pen Tennis field just added another headliner, as world No. 6 Nadia Petrova of Russia has committed to make her first appearance in New Haven. With 15 weeks remaining until first serve, Petrova joins top-10 standouts Kim Clijsters and Lindsay Davenport and fellow Russian Maria Sharapova at the Pilot Pen presented by Michelob ULTRA, a USTA Event, set for August 20-28 at the Connecticut Tennis Center.

Petrova, 22, reached her current career-best ranking with a strong start to 2004 which included appearances in the semifinals at Miami and Amelia Island, where she defeated Serena Williams, and the finals at Gold Coast. Her performance this year is an extension of 2003, when she completed her finest campaign, winning 45 matches. She reached the semifinals or better in five events, including her best-ever Grand Slam final four showing at Roland Garros.

Petrova had also committed to the 2003 Pilot Pen, but was forced to withdraw with a left hamstring strain.

“Nadia has rocketed up the rankings,” said Anne Worcester, Pilot Pen Tennis tournament director. ”She is a tall, aggressive, athletic player with a dangerous all-court game. We have had our eye on her for a couple of years and we are delighted that she will play her first Pilot Pen.”

Petrova’s rise into the top 10 is even more impressive, considering she began the 2003 season ranked No. 111. She is near the top of the strong Russian contingent which currently places nine players in the top 40 on the WTA Tour.

GolfWorks' New Club Shield Revolutionizes Club Repair

By Anonymous

NEWARK, OH June 28, 2004 -- Applying heat during a club repair or shaft removal can be one of the trickiest tasks in custom clubmaking, and can easily result in unwanted damage to expensive metalwood and graphite shaft finishes. Making clubmakers' job easier and worry-free, The GolfWorks is proud to introduce an incredible new product that no shop should be without — the revolutionary, new Club Shield, a new product that safeguards vital parts of clubs from heat.

The Club Shield is a safe, non-toxic spray gel that insulates and safeguards vital parts of a golf club during repairs and/or shaft removal when application of heat is required. The heat-resistant gel helps to preserve and protect painted finishes on metal woods, ferrules, graphite shaft finishes, putter inserts and/or any item that might be damaged by heat, and then is easily wiped away after the job is done.

"Almost every clubmaker has at some time experienced the frustration of accidentally damaging a painted metalwood or graphite shaft finish when applying heat during a club repair," says Britt Lindsey, vice president of technical services for The GolfWorks. "The Club Shield is an all-new, inexpensive method to safely help protect key areas of the club when it's necessary to apply heat for a particular repair or shaft replacement. We're very excited to be able to offer this to clubmakers. It's a completely new approach to safeguarding vital parts of the club during the repair process."

The GolfWorks new Club Shield is available in 16-ounce spray-applicator bottles for $14.95. For more information on the Club Shield, call The GolfWorks at 800-848-8358.
